The “honourable schoolboy” of the title is a man named Jerry Westerby, a spy working for Smiley, but the book is really about Smiley. This picks up where Tinker Tailor ends - Smiley's uncovered the mole, but the Circus has been deeply compromised. And on the train journey there, I FINALLY finished The Honourable Schoolboy, the second in the 'Karla' trilogy of John le Carre spy novels, the first of which is Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy. I wish someone would make a movie of The Honourable Schoolboy, but I'm guessing its “middle chapter” place in the trilogy means it is out of the question.
